The Art of Living
What does it actually mean to live well?
We spend an awful lot of time getting on with life. Working, raising families, meeting responsibilities and trying to keep up with everything that seems to demand our attention.
But how often do we stop and ask ourselves what it actually means to live well?
Is it happiness? Success? Finding purpose? Being content with what we have? Or is there something a little deeper to it?
Throughout history, philosophers and spiritual traditions have wrestled with these very questions. From the Stoics and their understanding of acceptance and resilience, to the teachings of Taoism and Buddhism, there is a wealth of wisdom exploring how we might approach life, our relationships and our own experiences.
The Art of Living is an afternoon of philosophical exploration, discussion and reflection, drawing on some of these ideas and considering what they might mean in the context of our own lives.
Together, we'll explore questions surrounding happiness, suffering, perspective, purpose and contentment. We'll consider how much of our experience is shaped by the way we think, the expectations we place upon ourselves and the way we respond to the world around us.
This isn't about finding a perfect formula for living or being told how we should approach life. It's about taking a step back, looking at things from a different perspective and perhaps reconsidering some of the ideas we've taken for granted.
There'll be a little teaching, plenty of opportunity for discussion and some time for individual reflection.
You don't need any previous knowledge of philosophy or spirituality. Just bring yourself, an open mind and a willingness to explore some of life's bigger questions.
